Job Description
Project People are supporting a multi-academy trust based in Norfolk. They are seeking to appoint a Senior Finance Manager to join the Trust on a permanent basis from September 2019.
The successful person will be responsible for the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and will report variances. You will prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements and will ensure that financial management within the Trust complies with the requirements of the Master Funding Agreement, the Academy's Financial Handbook and all other statutory and non-statutory requirements. You will also ensure financial management within the Trust fully complies with internal policies and procedures. Finally, you will also take a leading role in managing procurement across the Trust in order to ensure value for money.
You will be a qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, MAAT) or be on track to qualify within the next 12 months, with proven experience within a finance department and line management experience, preferably with some experience in the non-profit and/or education sectors. At least 2 to 3 years post qualified experience is desirable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Management Lead and manage the Trust's key financial processes, including budget setting, long term forecasts, monitoring and both internal and external reporting
- Provide assurance to the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer over all financial matters, including financial strategy and risk, systems of internal financial control, financial standing and sustainability of the Trust's financial position
- Budgeting and Forecasting
Prepare, in consultation with the Chief Operating Officer, the annual budget for approval by the Finance & Audit Committee
Maintain an ongoing three-year forecast
Prepare termly budget revisions for approval by the Finance & Audit Committee
Oversee the management of individual academy budgets and the head office budget, ensuring budget holders adhere to budgets and reporting all variances to the Chief Operating Officer
- Management Reporting
Prepare monthly management accounts (and commentary) and appropriate monthly budget monitoring reports for submission to budget holders and Trust Executive Board
Prepare half termly financial reports for presentation to the Finance & Audit Committee and to attend all meetings of that Committee
Ensure the timely production of periodic cash flow forecasts
- Internal Control
Develop, lead and manage effective systems of internal audit control, in accordance with the ESFA's Academies Financial Handbook, to eliminate the risk of financial losses and to maximise economy and efficiency in the use of resources and to enable accountability at appropriate levels
- Procurement
Keep a register of contracts and maintenance agreements, and ensure that a comprehensive fixed assets register is maintained
Carry out or support budget holders with carrying out value for money exercises for projects, new contracts and the termly resource purchases
- Line Management
Line manage all staff members within the Trust's Finance team
