Our client is among the world's leading global IT service providers and they are now looking for Support Diagnostician in VME.

The role

The VME operating system underpins crucial applications for customers and is a high margin business for our customer. The operating system is constantly being developed to ensure it is able to meet the demands of our customers.

VME has high profile customers and we have a responsibility to provide an operating system that is resilient and secure. Our aim is to delight our customers so we need a highly skilled team who are able to diagnose and resolve operating system software problems, ideally before any customer experiences them.

The successful candidates will have experience of successfully diagnosing and resolving complex software bugs.

Key Accountabilities

The candidate will be required to:

• Use traces, logs, software dumps, journals and other tools, e.g. GDB, in order to diagnose software errors, i.e. provide 3rd and 4th line support.
• Work with other team members to help define the resolution.
• Work with software testers when diagnosing problems found in house.
• Communicate with second line support staff when diagnosing problems found by customers.
• Adhere to support processes, putting the customer first.
• Keep management informed of progress
• Help to develop repeatable training material

Required/mandatory skills

The candidate will have:

• Previous experience working as an operating system software diagnostician
• Proven experience in reading and/or writing C or C++
• Initiative, flexibility and will be a good team worker. Needs to be a self-starter.

Desired skills

• Linux usage
• Linux shell scripting
