Job Description

Transmission Architect - 6 months+ - Berkshire - Mobile Telecoms

Role:

Architecture:

Responsible for the definition of a high-level target network transmission architecture ensuring solution addresses risk mitigation, performance, capacity, economics and customer experience. The architecture must additionally satisfy the legislative, regulatory and contractual obligations of a telco services supplier within the UK market.

Liaise with legal and regulatory team, and IT asset owners to identify specific network requirements where necessary.

Develop high level migration strategy that minimise impact to network to facilitate smooth transition and implementation.

Definition and creation of supporting transmission architectural principles, requirements and policies to provide a common body of reference artefacts to various managed service partners.

Ensuring strategy and architecture is executed via the appropriate solution delivery teams and overseeing it through to ensure that business benefit is realised.

Technical architectural governance of end to end transmission network.

New technology awareness, evaluation and selection. Running or supporting RFI, RFP and RFQ processes as and when necessary.

Lead and take part in 3rd party trials of new transmission infrastructure to support new and innovative technology and products.

Maintain standards and competitor awareness to identify and support proposals that meet the future objectives of Group.

Strategy:

Take part and contribution in the production of definition of the Transmission Strategy. This includes justification through analysis, SWOT, proof of concept, business case, interactions with Transport Design, IT/OSS and RAN Strategy, RAN design teams and IP design teams and managed providers, etc.

Develop and lead in the production of Transmission migration strategy to move high volume RAN connectivity from legacy transmission to new solution that minimises customer outage and impact.

Cross-Functional Engagement and Communication:

Engage with key stakeholders across the business to understand requirements, analyse and translate into technical transmission network requirements.

Develop new vendor relationships. Transition to domain owners for day-to-day vendor relationship. Ownership of ongoing vendor strategic relationships.

Essential Skills:

Must-have:

Gained excellent overall understanding of Transmission, IP RAN transport and RAN technologies gains from either telco network service provider and / or telco supplier.

Experience of identifying and managing transmission objectives, risks and mitigation plans

Up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging Optical and Ethernet Transmission systems, IP RAN, SDN & NFV and wireless technologies, spectrum, equipment and their advantages and disadvantages.

Good familiarity with OSS system and integration, Transport SDN Controller(s), NFV, MANO, Service Orchestration and multilayer PCE

Ability to know when to implement solutions with consideration to the wider impacts i.e. risk, cost, customer impact, timescales, etc.

Widespread knowledge of different Transmission vendors and solutions and managed services.

Excellent knowledge and experience RAN transmission, Core Transmission and Data Centre connectivity

Experience of defining Network Transmission Architectural Principles and Policy; and governing their implementation.

Significant experience of operating in a Governance and Architecture role; or a Design role having end-to-end responsibility and spanning multiple technology domains.

Ability to steer solutions based on the overall architecture without dictating the detailed design delivery.

Experience of working in a technology based role and interfacing to a varied number of internal and external stakeholders.

Excellent negotiation, and written and verbal presentation skills.

Ability to simplify analysis and present results clearly at all levels of the business - including at senior management team level.

MS Excel data modelling expertise

Nice to Have

Familiar with GIS software, in particular MapInfo, QGIS and Google Earth
