Project People are supporting a special needs school based in Suffolk. They are seeking to appoint a Child Care Residential Practitioner on a permanent basis from September 2019.
The school caters for children with complex and moderate learning difficulties from Year 3 to Year 11 and includes Residential provision and Outreach Services. All pupils have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for their educational needs, these statements are mainly for moderate learning difficulties. However many pupils have associated disabilities such as speech & language, autism and/or behaviour difficulties.
They have specialist status for SEN Cognition & Learning and are committed to providing outstanding opportunities for all our pupils.
The successful person will assist the residential Child Care Team to deliver effective services to pupils and their families in line with the Every Child Matters agenda, current legislative and school policies. You will contribute to all aspects of the physical, cognitive, social and emotional care of the young people, so as to promote their welfare whilst working in partnership with the family and other professionals.
There will be overnight stays, where you will undertake a sleep in rota and be responsible for a residential house overnight with the oversight of a senior member staff who will be on site aswell.
To be considered for this role you must have:
- Experience of working with children and/or the care sector
- Qualification working within the child care sector
- First Aid trained or willingness to undertake and achieve First Aid certificate and Positive Handling
- Experience of working with young people with special needs
- Understanding of child growth and development
- Knowledge of current legislation of Child Care
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding / health and safety
