Engineering Specialist - Fire Safety - Permanent - Travel into London - Mobile Telecoms

Exciting new opportunity to be the sole fire safety authority as part of the engineering team to provide expert guidance on all activities related to fire safety for mobile telecoms organisation.

Role:

The role is to provide expert advise to all stakeholders regarding fire safety, identifying risks the business should be aware of and put in place the necessary guidelines, processes, and procedures to mitigate those risks.

The role is to document and communicate all aspects of fire safety that are to be considered as part of the design and build phases of a telecoms installation and ensure that all suppliers working on Company sites are aware of the current legislation.

The role will also oversee fire related projects, ensuring that these are delivered to the required standard and act as a quality control safeguard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fire Safety

To be the authority for the business taking ownership for the publishing of all fire safety related site design documents.

To provide expert support to all stakeholders across the business and supplier base ensuring that guidelines are clearly communicated, understood and recognised as an integral part of the design process.

Identify gaps in processes and create and deliver operational strategies for rectification.

To review, approve/reject Fire safety concessions submitted by suppliers

To oversee and manage the performance of suppliers working on the various fire safety projects ensuring adherence to guidelines created and managing non conformance appropriately.

To ensure Fire Risk assessments are being performance and delivered to the standards that are required by the regulations driving Company compliance.

To ensure Company and its suppliers remain compliant with the current fire safety regulations.

Stakeholder Management

To operate at a senior level within the Company and the external industry as the authority for Fire Safety, providing thought leadership, influence, gravitas and expertise knowledge to drive a culture of fire safety across key senior stakeholders within the industry, often out of the direct spans of control.

To collate and drive necessary resources and specialist knowledge to fulfil fire safety requirements.

To mentor junior members of the team to ensure relevant knowledge transfer to strengthen the overall fire safety capability within the engineering team and provide an element of succession to cover periods of absence.

Reporting

Issue regular reports to the Head of Engineering confirming the status to various fire safety related activities and projects. Report to the CEO & Senior Leadership team regarding fire related projects, hazards, presenting mitigations and projects for improvements.

Budget Ownership

Own the fire safety budget throughout the financial year, accountable for prioritising spend and subsequent reporting, feeding into the year on year budgeting process

Personal Development

Accountable for personal development and growth, staying up to date with relevant legislation and industry changes. Application of technical knowledge to support decision making of others holistically across the organisation.

Compliance & Security

To support and contribute actively to regulatory compliance, health and safety, environmental, business continuity and information security arrangements that meets our obligations to our customers.

PERSON SPECIFICATION (EXPERTISE)

Experience (technical, managerial, industry)

Has worked in the field of fire safety and has worked either as a fire risk assessor or fire alarm designer or fire design authority role.

Good knowledge of all fire safety legislation in the UK and how to is to be applied to the design and construction industry

Has a good understanding of the CDM regulations

Has worked as fire design authority or consultant
