Core Network Support Engineer - Permanent - Mobile Telecoms

Our labs facility and team provide our customers with the best mobile telecoms Network Test Facility in the UK, enabling development, testing and integration of world class solutions, on best in class environments. This role can be based in either Bristol or Borehamwood

Role Purpose:

You will support the technology Labs' Mobile Voice core network components - helping our testers, designers and Operations to work together to make our client's fixed and mobile services the best in the UK.

You will ensure the timely availability of robust and proven test environments, building against a defined standard and ensuring appropriate connectivity between systems both internally and externally, applying appropriate security.

The role requires good skills and experience of the session, call and mobility mechanisms within a Release 4 - Release 12 core network - providing both mobile and fixed line services.

You will be working in a team responsible for platform and service development, configuration & troubleshooting - using tracing tools to diagnose faults and to drive resolution. You will be responsible for driving good practice around process - specifically Fault, Change and Configuration management processes.

You will have both the technical skills and proven experience to provide 1st and 2nd line support in one or more of the following areas.

Mobile Voice Core

• Ericsson IMS, MTAS
• Ericsson R4
• Ericsson IPWorks
• Ericsson OSS
• IP Networking and transport skills and knowledge to support the above

Signalling Networks

• Oracle/Tekelec Eagle 5, DSR
• Oracle/Acme Packet SSR, SBC
• IP Networking and transport skills and knowledge to support the above Tracing tools- Wireshark, JDSU, Netscout.

Mobile Data

• Specifically - Huawei 4G-EPC MME, S-GW, P-GW, MME, SGSN, GGSN,
• PCRF
• DNS
• Gx & Gy AAA, Online Charging,
• Cisco ePDG,
• Bytemobile Gi services
• IP Networking and transport skills and knowledge to support the above

IN/Value Added Services

• Nokia SDM product line - including One-NDS, HSS, NT-HLR, One-AAA
• Nokia NetAct
• Mavenir EIR
• Redknee/Nokia Intelligent Network SCP
• Huawei Service Broker

General requirements for behaviours, skills and experience relevant to the role:

• You will work with both offshore and onshore Environment Managers using your skills and knowledge to develop, configure and support parts of the core network.
• You will support our Testing community - using OSS fault-finding when issues are found, working collaboratively to provide solutions.
• You will drive good practice - ensuring the Labs community follows process around fault management, change management and configuration management.
• You will provide technical support, understanding how your decisions impact on other areas within Technology Labs and ensure that the knowledge accrued is documented, guiding and training other staff in their area of expertise.
• You will develop additional areas of knowledge and expertise to widen the overall Technology Labs understanding of how all technical components work together, being recognised as a technical expert in multiple areas.
• You will be proactive in driving the remedial work required in order to maintain the test estate in order that it is more usable by the wider integration, test and development communities driving improvements in the team's working and technical methods.

Essential Experience & Knowledge

• Excellent knowledge and experience of designing or supporting Core Network architecture and network elements.
• Experience of monitoring/call trace systems for troubleshooting problems in the test networks.
• Good breadth of knowledge of other technical areas of work; (e.g. Mobile Phone Network voice core, Radio Network, IP Transport, Value Added Services)
• Understand the detail of how mobile phone mobility and session transactions are completed within the network and the systems they touch en-route.
• Ability to understand and work with technical network designs.
• An overall general knowledge of IT - particularly provisioning and billing systems.
• An ability to understand, research, and assimilate new technical jargon and concepts.
• Able to interpret and implement architecture designs within test and proof of concept networks.
• Practical knowledge of Testing and Project Life-cycles.
• Engineering, Science or IT based degree or equivalent experience

Nice to Have Experience & Knowledge:

• Knowledge of Virtualisation, NFV, SDN
• Technology experience, preferably in either telecoms network or a pertinent supplier role or telecom monitoring solutions.
• Technical experience with internet routing and architecture ideally to support IP Transport connectivity on Cisco, Huawei, & Juniper networks.
