Job Title: Cloud Engineer - AWS

Based at: At home & our communal network of offices

Job Purpose

A multi-faceted role focused on improving the company's ability to build, test and maintain its cloud based infrastructure to ensure its resilience and operational efficiency and security.

Job Summary

Partnering on the continuous improvement of IT infrastructure including:

● Maintain & enhance cloud based services ensuring the services are readily available, able to resolve any outage challenges in an efficient and user friendly manner

● Develop, review and continuously improve the company's AWS based multi-account, multi VPC infrastructure to provide a resilient, reliable and secure service

● Ensuring that IT infrastructure enables the company to provide programmes of work efficiently, securely and within budget

● Offer cloud services advice, solutions and training to the Data team and other Leadership Team members

Additional Responsibilities

● IT Maintenance and scheduling; including agreed out of hours support for scheduled maintenance and downtime

● Configuring and maintain security and performance monitoring and regular reporting of results

● Building a DevOps culture and educate the team on best practices

● Managing resources to support the data team in their modelling, processing, analysis and information management

● Utilize Infrastructure As Code methodology and use automation wherever possible

● Support with developing applications and tools for both the company and 3rd parties alongside other data team members

● Learning & supporting legacy applications running within the AWS infrastructure (ETL, GIS etc)

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

● Strong team player able to contribute positively in a small team environment, often working on own or with one other for specific tasks

● Ability to show initiative, look out for improvements and feel comfortable making recommendations and spike testing your own ideas.

● Has self discipline to remain focused, plan workloads and meet objectives with limited supervision in a primarily remote role

● In-depth knowledge of AWS Cloud infrastructure and architecture including networking - AWS Certification with a minimum of 3 years AWS experience

● Windows, Apple OS

● Linux environments, preferably Amazon Linux 2, Centos

● Windows environments, preferably 2019, Active Directory/LDAP

● Strong AWS CLI & Cloudformation

● Good understanding of AWS Lambda, EC2, ECS Fargate, VPC, ALB, RDS

● Understanding of AWS Security tools including Security Hub and GuardDuty

● Bitbucket, CI/CD and automation

● Good scripting experience using Python & Bash

● Knowing what most of these acronyms are, and what they do, but not necessarily have expertise in all of them (some would be advantageous):

AMI, API, ACL, ASG, CLI, CDN, DMS, EC2, ECS, EFS, EBS, ELB, EIP, ENI, IAM, IGW, KMS, RDS, S3, SNS, SQS, SES, SSO, TGW, VPC, VPN, WAF

Desirable Technical

Knowledge

● Oracle & APEX experience

● Jira/Agile/Scrum experience

● Exposure to JavaScript, SQL, HTML

● Terraform and CI/CD knowledge useful

● Google Suite Admin & Applications (specifically Gmail, Docs, Sheets)
