Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Ipswich

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer to join a leading multinational telecom company.

You will be responsible for the development of mask designs required for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices. Work for this team comes from project managers, and you will be expected to work closely with process development engineers.

Main Responsibilities

• Optoelectronic device design, in particular device mask layout.
• Work with internal customers to translate their specifications into workable designs.
• Carry out design work in collaboration with process development engineers to deliver manufacturable designs against agreed specifications, cost and time budgets.
• Mask design and layout in GDSII format.
• Developing ways to integrate mask design and process development.
• Provide design support to troubleshoot process issues.
• Any other adhoc duty as requested by the Device Design Manager.

Skills/Qualifications

Essential

• BSc in physics or a related physical science;
• Experience in III-V semiconductor device fabrication and/or testing;
• Experience of commercial mask layout software;
• Knowledge of optoelectronic device operation.

Desirable

• PhD in a relevant semiconductor/material or device design topic;
• Experience of commercial optical waveguide software packages;
• Experience in script programming - eg Python, version control tools, would also be an advantage.
