Job Description

Network Engineer/Consultant (Cisco/IPT/Cloud (AWS)) is urgently required by our Global IT Services Client, for a rolling 12-month contract to be based in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will have experience working in an AWS Cloud and IT Services environment. The project is a complex, multi vendor, environment.

The Network Engineer will be responsible for configuration, administration and management of both networking and security components, to include; firewalls, proxies, routers and switches.

To be successful, you will have the following experience:

  • Impact analysis and technical risk assessment
  • Strong technical competency and knowledge of the following technologies:
    • Cisco Routing / Switching / Firewalls
    • IPT Telephony.
    • Internet Connectivity
    • Network Security
    • Mobile Device Management
    • Mobile Security
    • Mobile Networking and Connectivity
    • Cloud based technologies and virtual networks (e.g. VPC's)
  • Has technical knowledge two or more of the following areas:
    • Microsoft solutions
    • Messaging Services including O365
    • Operating systems
    • Desktop services
    • Citrix Technologies
    • VMware
    • Databases
    • Linux Platforms
    • Operating systems
    • SAN and Back up Technologies

Responsibilites:

  • Responsible for the safe management and configuration of networking and comms infrastructure, to maintain a stable and secure network service for the business.
  • Manage, monitor, configuration and updates to the corporate firewalls; utilising the networking performance dashboards to track and resolve performance or configuration issues, before they cause business impact.
  • Responsible to support and manage network latency investigations and investigate poor performance issues affecting business services.
  • Liaise with firewall and network service providers to ensure contractual services are being delivered to standard and quality expected, including incident, request and change management - GTT, SSE Enterprise Telecoms, SSE Operational Security team and AWS/AMS.
  • Periodically perform security assessment of firewall, proxies, routers, switches, VPN and other network component security configurations.
  • Map and document network routing and switching equipment and technologies, updating existing design documents and ensuring these are maintained by 3rd
  • Maintain network performance through rigorous monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting network problems and escalating problems to the SIAM partner, relevant vendor and service delivery team.
